Louie Sutherland is set to return to the Octagon on October 17, taking on undefeated heavyweight prospect Javad Mahjoub at UFC Edmonton.
The matchup will see Sutherland look to bounce back from his submission loss to José Montanha in August. Prior to that defeat, the English heavyweight picked up his first UFC victory with a unanimous decision over Tai Tuivasa in Perth.
Sutherland currently holds an 11-6 professional record, with eight of his victories coming by knockout. The 32-year-old London native has built his career around his aggressive striking and finishing ability, with seven of his eight knockout victories coming in the opening round.
Javad Mahjoub enters the contest with a perfect 5-0 professional record. The Canadian-based heavyweight has finished four of his five opponents, including a first-round submission victory over Pietro Gentile in his most recent fight in February.
The fight presents an important opportunity for both heavyweights. For Sutherland, it is an opportunity to get back in the win column and re-establish his momentum in the division.
With two heavyweights known for finishing fights, the matchup promises to be a potentially explosive addition to the UFC Edmonton card.
